Here’s a Duck to Remember Us
Among the lifesaving machines and medicines at Atrium Health Levine Cancer Institute Union, a facility of Carolinas Medical Center, there’s perhaps, something far more meaningful to the patients and providers there - rubber ducks.

It all started about a decade ago, with a friendly gesture from a blanket vendor, who gifted the nurses a few rubber ducks and they decided to put them on display. In 2016, that gesture sparked a new tradition when a breast cancer patient, Jessica Conklin, finished her treatment and gave the staff a rubber flamingo to say, "thank you.” That’s when the team at Levine Cancer Institute Union decided that would become their trademark. From then on, they gave patie...

    What procedure are they talking about in this video? Im confused. I never heard them say the name of the procedure.

    It is unique to each individual - I’m an endurance athlete in AF. My normal resting pulse is 45 but currently 75. I had several ECGs a few days ago which confirmed AF. However, relative to my usual self I cannot race a mile at the same pace I could without AF but I’m still planning to run a 50k mountain ultra at the weekend regardless. I did a 10 miler last night at a steady pace and felt great. Yes the heart rate was more elevated relative to a given pace than usual but how it felt was fine. Now I’m lucky that I’ve started with a very high exercise threshold but the point I’m making is don’t let it stop your existing exercise if you already have one. Just managed it appropriately based upon how you feel. I feel this marries the advice in this video? I was so pleased that I was not told “do not run” on diagnosis and that AF is a limited to athletic performance potential, yes, but doesn’t stop exercise all together.

    I was first diagnosed with a caffeine sensitivity. I gave up caffeine. I noticed that alcohol gave me the same symptoms. I basically stopped drinking. Which was no big deal because I was a very light social drinker anyway. Then I was told I had anxiety. Was put on meds for that. I kept telling the Dr's something was not quite right with my heart. I had a stress test and was fine there. They kept telling me it was probably menopause trigger anxiety. 5 years later I had to call an ambulance 3 times and went to the ER twice before the EKG finally caught it while it was happening. I had to wait 6 weeks for my turn with the holter monitor. Wore that for 2 weeks and found out that I had Afib. I was also then sent for a sleep study and I had terrible sleep apnea. PS I never snored. Things are better and managed with medication now. But it was terrifying going for all those years without being heard that it was my heart. I am working to try to lose the tons of weight I gained from being on an anti anxiety med that made me sleep 13 hours a night on the weekends and constantly feel like I was starving. I am hoping the weight loss will help with my Afib. If anyone thinks they have Afib, please be sure to self advocate. It is worth your effort.

    A very good overview. I had this surgery a little over a month ago. I had a large prostate and I’m almost 70. I spent three days in the hospital so I’m an outlier. But bleeding stopped on the fifth day after surgery. I only had one minor incident with bleeding after that. The operation totally works, big increase in flow rate. I am experiencing some incontinence with bladder spasms as my body adapts to the new plumbing. Have a pack of diapers handy for the first week or two. Good news was no sign of cancer in the tissue that was removed. I considered that a bonus of the operation.

    Anxiety?

    • @Gingerwalker.
      @Gingerwalker. 12 дней назад

      I have Afib. It took 5 years for the Dr's to believe me that it was my heart and not anxiety. Wearing a holter monitor for 2 weeks proved me right. Of course I was put on anti anxiety meds before my Afib diagnose. I am trying to wean myself off of them. But the withdrawl gives me Afib. My Cardiologist doesn't think that it should. But for me it does. Best wishes and be sure to self advocate until you get an answer.

    have think thr likelihood of someone quitting who has a 10 year habit... if all their friends and lifestyle is that... I just don't think they will change. I am giving up hope for that person. As someone who doesn't have an addiction... its very exhausting to deal with and try to encourage healthier behaviors when they don't care about their family, saving, their kids, making a life for them or working. It's just party all the time... party all the time! This isn't being an adult. I don't get this mentality. you just have more problems on top of your problems because now you have 0 dollars to your name for temporary fun with so called friends who are just your party friends... but they don't care how your kids are or if your bills are paid.

    I didn't realize this, but when I had a CAC of 660 I went on Omega3 high dose of 3-4 grams per day. I learned that Europeans were saying they were experiencing A-fib on Omega3. When I recently had Covid I was in A-fib for a week. I decided to stop Omega3 and in a couple of days I was not experiencing any A-fib. I decided to run a 100yds as an elevated heart rate in the 80s, which usually would put me into A-fib didn't happen. In fact I put my heart in the 90s and no A-fib. I did stop alcohol a known trigger. An over the counter decongestant would also put me into A-fib. But I don't know about the Omega3 influence being a factor in either one. All I know is I'm estatic that my A-fib seems to be gone!

    I just smoked weed for 24 years almost daily. Started getting paranoid delusions and anxiety every time i smoked. Realized my life is good now i used to smoke for fun, then to cope with life being mundane or bad. I took a look at my habit now that I'm happily married and realized, "why do i even do this anymore? It doesn't even make me happy the bad outweighs the good, and i have a good life". I realize it's just marijuana but addiction was addiction i was so used to it being a part of my lifestyle. It was part of who i was, the music i listened to, etc. Seemed like i couldn't separate myself from that the idea made me sad like i gave up on a friend. But sometimes you outgrow "friends", realize the "friendship" isnt working anymore and you have to move on.
